Discretionary Grants
Discretionary Grants provide “bridge” funds to respond to a short-term, urgent, health-related need or opportunity.

The purpose of the Discretionary Grant is to respond to those financial needs of an organization that cannot be planned for in advance and require an immediate application of funds in order to solve a crisis or take advantage of an unexpected opportunity. However, these funds are not to be used to solve problems caused by poor planning, nor to prolong the life of an ineffective organization or system.

Characteristics:
  • Grant proposals are given priority if they relate to an Endowment theme.
  • Awards are usually $10,000 or less.
  • Grant proposals may be submitted at any time.
  • To apply, submit the Discretionary Grant Proposal form.
  • Grants are usually awarded during the month following receipt of the proposal.

To obtain a better understanding of the kind of requests that receive funding, search the Awards page for the Discretionary Grants that the Endowment has awarded in the past.
